Behind This Song

This song grew out of a real disappointment, but it did not stay there. It became a tender way of recognizing that some dreams get rearranged when love, calling, and real life ask for something deeper.

What matters in the song is not missing Paris. It is realizing that beauty was still unfolding right where we were - in faithfulness, in love, and in the life God was actually giving us.

It became a small testimony that delayed dreams do not always mean diminished goodness. Sometimes they just make room for a different kind of joy.

Lyrics

We didn’t get to Paris last year But when you stood up tall and brave And towered over me And vowed to love me fiercely And always fight for me Nothing would divide our love What a sight to see last year We didn’t get to Paris this year But our dreams are coming true in the darkest of times Beauty more transcendent Than Mona Lisa’s smile And I’d rather write a love song For the love of my life this year Do you want to go to Paris next year? Well, if the question is a chateau Or maybe the Louvre Or spend all my tomorrows Changing the world with you, Chasing down the old dreams Or building the new this year and next year, right here Speaking French in small cafés can wait another day Sipping coffees while we’re talking can wait another day Sunrises over countrysides and fields that are in bloom can wait Can wait a year or two.

Rooted in Scripture

Proverbs 16:9

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.

This song holds that tension - learning to trust the path God was shaping.
