Behind This Song

This song came from a valley season where the next faithful thing was simply to cry out. It is not written from the other side of struggle, but from inside the need for God to steady the heart.

The image underneath it is simple: fear in the chest, a long road ahead, and God still being the Rock higher than we can reach on our own. The song became a first-step prayer.

It gives language to the moment when strength is thin but trust is still possible - not because the valley is small, but because He is faithful in it.

Lyrics

There are mountains, mountains of fear in my heart And shadows o’er the valley, I don’t even know where to start Is there peace like a river? God, how my heart longs to see Every promise awaiting, but I can’t seem to pick up my feet, so I’ll sing Oh, God, Rock of my salvation I cry out to You, I cry out to You I’m still standing today, because I've a faithful friend And there’s no other name to cling to but Yours ‘til the end And as this valley is deep, Your grace is all the more So I’ll take that first step, knowing that You’re my reward, now and forever Oh, God, Rock of my salvation I cry out to You, I cry out to You Oh God, strength of my heart in the valley I cry out to You, I cry out to You Be still, my heart, for He is your God Be still and know that He is your God

Rooted in Scripture

Psalm 61:2

From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

This is where the song was written from - reaching for something steady.

    Release day

Released as a valley prayer, sending the song's cry for strength and steadiness into the world.

A Prayer

God, Rock of our salvation, when fear rises in us and the valley feels long, teach us to cry out to You instead of giving in to despair. Steady our hearts, lift our eyes, and lead us again to the place where Your peace is stronger than our fear. Be our strength in the valley and our reward through every step. Amen.
